Weekly update

Well today I had the most frustrating weigh in to date!! My goal for quite some time has been to weigh less than the amount that I have lost, which is a weight of 227 and a loss of 228. Well I weighed in today with a weight of 228, one stinking pound away, ugh. My celebration will have to wait another week, but I am super stoked about being so close to my ultimate goal.

Even though I am getting close to the end of the weight loss portion of my journey, I am still really just starting the healthy living portion of my weight loss. This will be the most challenging part of this whole process. I do know one thing for sure there is no way that I want to ever go back to the way I was, or weigh what I did.

This last week was also a big week for me the Center for Weight Loss at the St. Bernard’s Center for Weight Loss has decided that they are going to use my story in some of their marketing this fall so I got some photos done, so I felt I should share them here with you.

Week #37 update

Well after a week of vacation and weight gain of 2 pounds, I knew that it was time for my to get back into the box, back on track, and back to the basics! Well I am happy to say that it has worked out in a great way, I have lost 9 pounds this week! That makes my weight loss a staggering 221 pounds! That means that I am only 6 pounds away from my goal of 227 pounds! Oh what a great day that will be!!

It has been interesting for me to try and navigate the world of eating right and staying on the diet. This last week I ate out of the box 2 times and even though it was awesome, I felt guilty enough to work out extra hard those days, we will see how long that feeling lasts.

I felt that it was time that I included some new pictures so here is one of me at my high school graduation and one today:

Week #20 Update

It doesn’t hardly seem possible that we are already 20 weeks in to this journey. It seems like only yesterday, I was living on fast-food, wearing 52″ jeans and 4X shirts, and laughing off any thought of exercise. Fast forward to today and my oh my how things have changed!! I now never touch anything that is not “in my box”, in fact the thought of always eating fast food doesn’t even appeal to me right now. Today I am wearing 40-42″ jeans and a XL-XXL shirt, as seen by the recent update “the Shirt” is now super close to fitting! The other major change is now exercise has become an absolute essential in my daily routine!

There are several things that have happened recently that I want to update you on:

  • I have been putting off running partially on doc’s advice and partly cause of pain I have been having in my hip. I was feeling good saturday and decided to give running a try and actually ran for about 10 minutes, then yesterday I went out again and this time I ran a mile! All of that running and I actually had no pain, and felt better after running than I do after a long walk! I cannot begin to tell you how big of an accomplishment that is, the last time I ran a complete mile was when I was a freshman in high school, that is almost 20 years ago! Now the next goal is to run a complete lap around Craighead Lake (2.4 miles) and then the outer road (2.9 miles). Maybe a 5K is as not as far in my future as I thought it was.
  • With June also comes my busy travel season, I will be gone with teenagers 3 of the next 7 weeks. I will also have lots of day trips, and lots of other miscellaneous events that could potentially derail my progress. So after 20 weeks of faithful “in the box” commitment these next 8 weeks will put that resolve and dedication to the test!
  • Due to the fact that the length of the numbers list is getting so long I have created a seperate page just for it, and you can fid it here.
  • I am now only 14.5 pounds away from being in the 200’s a feat I hope to accomplish by my birthday on the 5th of July! What a great gift to myself that will be. The other part of that goal is to be able to wear “the Shirt” out in public on my birthday!

Week #11 update

So it is hard to believe that I am already coming up on 3 months of being on the HMR diet. It has definitely been an epic adventure. When I started I was filled with a lot of doubts as to whether or not I was going to be able to stick with such a rigid diet plan, but as time has gone on I have realized that it is a lot easier than I thought. I get asked all the time, “don’t you miss eating real food?” The quick answer to the question is always no, but the longer answer is that I have a variety of foods that count as my shakes that help break up the monotony of 5 shakes a day!

So I wanted to share with you some of the highlights of the last week:

  • We had spring break this last week, which for a lot of people means things dramatically slow down, as we look forward to summer vacation. However, for a youth minister it means the kids are out of school and I spend a lot of time going to lunch and hanging out with teenagers. Even with the crazy schedule last week I was able to stay the course and remain focused.
  • One of the things that I do in my free time is doing the public address and music at high school athletic events. It’s a lot of fun and it gets me out of the office and away from thinking about ministry things all of the time. This last week we hosted a baseball tournament for three days and I spent all three of those days behind the mic for 11 hours a day. I am happy to say that even though I was completely spent and absolutely worn out I still got my workouts in!

  • The fact that I lost 7.6 pounds in week 11 is amazing!! I went in to last nights weigh in fully prepared for and OK with a 5 pound weight loss, so this is an amazing loss! I have one official weigh in left before Easter, but about two-weeks before the actual day, so there is still a possibility of me hitting that Magical 100 pound mark by Easter Sunday morning!

Blessings!

Week #10 weigh in

Well I must say that I have been really Really  bad about writing this last week, so I will try to catch everyone up on what has happened in the last week:

  • I have now added circuit training to my regular workout routine. I really like lifting weights, so I am glad to get back to that. The bad thing about lifting weights after you haven’t for a while is that you tend to get sore muscles. I keep a regular weekly schedule of 40 minutes elliptical, 40 minutes swimming, and then 40 minutes of circuit training, I do that twice a week and then add a 3rd elliptical session and that brings me to seven days a week. Well, Saturday was my circuit training day and I had a great workout with not a lot of pain, until that is I woke up yesterday morning. My calves were definitely feeling the effects! I got out of bed yesterday morning and I was walking like an 85-year-old man!! fortunately the soreness worked out enough to get around ok.
  • I have talked several times on here about how I have been pushing to get to the 100 pound lost mark by easter Sunday, however it now looks like I am not gonna make it by Easter Sunday, it will more than likely be the next week for sure.
  • The initial 13 weeks of the diet end on the 2nd of April, and it looks like I am going to “re-up” for another term. I am a big proponent of the “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” school of thought. I plan on staying with the diet for at least another 4 or 5 months.
  • Here are my number so far:

Starting……1/9……455.3……0 pds lost

Week #1……1/16……443.4……11.9 pds lost

Week #9……3/12……379.8……75.5 pds lost

Week #10……3/19……374.5……80.8 pds lost

  • My monthly picture updates will be coming here in a couple of weeks, as well as the shirt update picture.
  • I do have to share with y’all that I am now wearing a size 46 pant. When I started this diet I was in a size 52 that was tight and now I am all the way down to 46’s, that’s 6 sizes!!!

I hope everyone has a blessed day!!

Week #9 Update

As has become a Tuesday morning tradition, I am going to once again post my numbers. I had a great week again! I had a couple of firsts this week, (1) I burned off 1100 calories in one day thanks to 40 minutes on the elliptical and some mall walking after wards, and (2) I had nearly 6000 calories burned for the week, that translates into about 45 minutes of hard work every day.

I am currently not under any time deadline to lose weight, however I am on mission to lose 100 pounds in the initial 13 week class. I am going to have to pull of some 4 quarter miracles to make it happen, but that is what is pushing me right now. I know that even if i don’t get it by then I will soon after. So without further ado here are the updated numbers:

Starting……1/9……455.3……0 pds lost

Week #1……1/16……443.4……11.9 pds lost

Week #2……1/23……432.1……23.2 pds lost

Week #3……1/30……424.0……31.3 pds lost

Week #4……2/6……414.9……40.4 pds lost

Week #5……2/13……409.0……46.3 pds lost

Week #6……2/20……400.0……55.3 pds lost

Week #7……2/27……393.8……61.5 pds lost

Week #8……3/5……386.2……69.1pds lost

Week #9……3/12……379.8……75.5 pds lost

I am absolutely shocked that I have been able to cross the 75 pound mark in just over two months.

Week #6 Update

As I promised last night on my twitter feed here is the updated numbers for my current weight loss progress. I talked a couple of days ago about 2 milestones that were on the horizon for me; One, that I would hit the 50 pounds lost mark, and two, that I would drop in to the 300’s on my weight. Well I am super happy to have hit the 50 pound mark, and say I was as close as I could have come to dropping in to the 300’s without actually getting there as I could have gotten. I weighed in at 400.0 last night, oh well a 9 pound loss in a week is amazing!!

Starting……1/9……455.3……0 pds lost

Week #1……1/16……443.4……11.9 pds lost

Week #2……1/23……432.1……23.2 pds lost

Week #3……1/30……424.0……31.3 pds lost

Week #4……2/6……414.9……40.4 pds lost

Week #5……2/13……409.0……46.3 pds lost

Week #6……2/20……400.0……55.3 pds lost

I will say that I am absolutely thrilled with my progress in just 6 weeks. If you would have told me that I could lose nearly 60 pounds in that amount of time, I would have said that you were crazy. Yet here I am on the brink of dropping back in to the 300’s hitting another milestone. I am so grateful for everyone who is following this journey I am on, and the kind words that I am getting from everyone!

Have a blessed day!
